‘I raised her from age four’ — Stepfather breaks down after stepdaughter chooses biological father to walk her down the aisle

A stepfather has broken down in tears after revealing that his 35-year-old stepdaughter chose her biological father to walk her down the aisle, despite him raising her from the age of four and supporting her for more than three decades.

The emotional man shared his experience on the programme Tonight’s Conversation, where he sought advice on how to cope with the decision and heal from the hurt.

According to him, he had been present in the woman’s life since she was four, providing emotional and financial support, including paying her college tuition. He said he had spent over 30 years raising her and was therefore deeply affected when she chose her biological father for the special wedding role.

His story sparked a debate among panelists, with some expressing sympathy for him and noting that experiences like his could make some men hesitant to date women with children or invest in raising children who are not biologically theirs.

However, another panelist criticised his reaction, suggesting that he was keeping score of his sacrifices and treating fatherhood as a transaction. The panelist argued that raising a child should not necessarily come with the expectation of receiving a particular honour in return.

The discussion has since highlighted differing views about blended families, parental sacrifices and the emotional complexities that can arise when children maintain relationships with both their biological parents and stepparents.
